Leelanau Barn

Posted on October 24, 2018 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in Barns and Farms .

I saw this old barn up on a hill in the middle of the Leelanau Peninsula. I had to stop and take a pic because who doesn’t love an old barn. Don’t ask me where it’s located. I had been driving for a while crisscrossing the Leelanau Peninsula, and I am not sure where I was at when I took this pic.

I have a question for you. what do you think about me posting more than once a day? I have been limiting my posts to one a day since I don’t want to be sending you to many emails and you getting annoyed with me. I have taken a lot of photos in the past few months, and have tons of pics to show you and stories to tell. What do you think if I post twice a day a few times a week? Please comment below.

The Old Farmhouse and the Crazy Stuff I Find

Posted on October 20, 2017 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in Barns and Farms, Houses .

I found this old farmhouse between Gaylord and Alba and I had to stop and get a pic ( from the road, I don’t trespass) Like many old houses I find, I look on google maps to see what’s around the area, sometimes I find a name of  long lost town that has been forgotten to time.

When I looked on google maps where the old house stands, and I flipped it to satellite view, I found the letters USA along with a cross and a star and some strips. There are a lot of Christmas tree farms in the area and one of the farmers must have planted their trees in these shapes that can be seen from the air, or at least from the satellites passing overhead. I am not sure who created the patriotic landscape of trees, but thank you for the little moment of joy as I discovered it on the Internet.

2017 Fall Color Report

Posted on October 17, 2017 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in autumn, Barns and Farms .

Pic of an old barn in the middle of the Leelanau Peninsula October 16, 2017

Yesterday, October 16, 2017, I went on a whirlwind tour of the northern Lower Peninsula. I went thru Grayling and Gaylord and the trees were about 50 percent changed in Gaylord. Then I traveled west near Torch Lake and from there the trees were still rather green. I went over to Traverse City and I was going to go up to the Mission Point Lighthouse but when I looked across the bay the trees in the point were mostly green so I continued on into the Leelanau Peninsula. I was surprised that in the middle of October the trees looked more like the middle of September. M22 along the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore the trees have hardly changed.

If you are planning a trip this weekend (Oct 21 and 22)  up north and want to go “leaf peeping” I would plan on heading to the Straits Of Mackinac area and I am thinking the leaves will be peaking around the Grand Traverse area around the weekend of Oct 28 and 29.

The Old Barn on M-22

Posted on September 24, 2017 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in autumn, Barns and Farms .

I saw this old barn while I was on M-22 near Manistee a few years ago. cars were whizzing by headed to the nearby casino but I stopped on the side of the road anyway because I thought this was such a beautiful sight with the Autumn trees in full color.

Sorry I have not posted in a while but I have been busy last week doing the final touches on my book, I promise I am almost done, I thought I was last week but then I gave my proof book to a few people and they found some mistakes ( yeah I know I ain’t perfect) so hopefully one more round of corrections and it will be done. I am looking forward to a fall road trip in Michigan, I am not sure where I am gonna go to this year but I hope it’s cooler. I can’t believe we got 90 degree days in September.

Sunflowers and Silos in Shiawassee

Posted on August 31, 2017 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in Barns and Farms .

I was at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds recently for my son’s cross country meet and standing at the entrance to the fairgrounds was this old silo surrounded by sunflowers. I am a city boy and no expert on silos or farms but I know that the silos built with the square brown tiles are old. I looked it up on the internets and from what I found the silos of this type built from the 1900s to the 1930s so this old silo must be about 100 years old. It’s what remained of the farm that once stood where the fairgrounds are today.

I also stopped and got a dam pic in Corunna but that’s a post for another day.

The Old Barn Near Howell

Posted on May 20, 2017 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in Barns and Farms .

howell michigan barn

I was out roaming the back roads around Howell and I came across this old barn with the ivy growing up the sides. Like most of the old barns I photograph, I don’t know any history or stores about it. I can only imagine the farmers horses had a nice home when it was built, but then again I am a city boy and not a farming expert either, but I do know a pretty old barn when I see one.  I was not able to spend a lot of time in Howell but it is a beautiful town, I need to get back there soon.

The Barn Near The Lighthouse

Posted on November 8, 2016 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in autumn, Barns and Farms .

harrisville-barn

On my way out to the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse, north of Harrisville, I pass by this old barn. Every time I take a trip out to the lighthouse, I have to stop and take a pic of this old barn, and I sure could not pass up a pic in Autumn.

I don’t always say it every post, but thank you so much for following me and sharing my photos from around Michigan. Your kindness and support really means a lot to me.

I took this pic last year, unfortunately I missed the peek by a few days but it still hast that ” Tunnel Of Trees” look and a beautiful road to drive on anytime of year. You can see the world famous D. H. Day barn to the right in the background.

Michigan abandoned farm house

I took a trip out to the tip of the thumb today, and I saw this old farmhouse near Carsonville along the way.  I had to stop and get a pic of it. I took M25 along the lake, and it sure is a beautiful drive, I am looking forward to sharing some more pics and stories from my trip in the near future.

Thank you for following me and reading my posts.

The Road Less Traveled

Posted on October 4, 2016 by Mike Sonnenberg Posted in Barns and Farms .

Michigan Autumn barn
Yesterday I was planning on going out on a whirlwind tour of the thumb to see what I could find. The steering on my old Jeep was a little shaky, so I stopped by my friends shop, after a ride up on the hoist, I found out it needs a little work, well actually a lot of work. I guess the Michigan back roads are a little rough on the old jeep, so I have to delay my trip for a little while. Since I am stuck at home for a few days why not put calendars on sale.

Now is a great time to get a calendar and help me out with expenses, and if you own a car, you know what I mean by expenses. I hope you will take a look at my calendars HERE

I can never say it enough, but thank you for following me, and taking the time to look at my photos, and read my posts. I do my best to post stuff you will find interesting and enjoyable to read, even if I ain’t to good of a writer.
