It’s mainly just me ( Mike Sonnenberg) with my camera driving around in my jeep seeing what I can find. Sometimes my best friend, a black lab named Cooper tags along with me too. I was born and raised in Saginaw and still live there now. I see all the images on Pure Michigan and they do a great job showing the tourist areas of Michigan, but what about the farmlands and the inner cities? I don’t play golf or drink wine and don’t care for sitting on the beach either, I have to be out exploring and when I am up north I just want to see what I can find. Sunsets over Lake Michigan are wonderful, but I want to show what else there is to see in the mitten state. I am that crazy photographer guy that has to pull over to the side of the road and get the photo of some iconic place that we all drive by but have never noticed. I am sure I am not the only one that likes driving around the state enjoying the drive, the bikers and snowmobilers know what I am talking about. I just have the desire to photograph and share what I see to connect us all together in this beautiful state.

Congrats on the new website, Mike ! I have enjoyed your “Pure Michigan” site very much . I look forward to seeing the images you select for this new place for me to wonder around the Michigan countryside . I always enjoyed turning down a road just to see where it goes.. and what I might find there !
I am looking for a 2019 lighthouse calendar. Will there be more or should I look elsewhere?
Unfortunately I sold out of the 2019 lighthouse calendars.
Dear Mike,
Greetings from South of the Border. As a connoisseur of I-75, M23, M25, & M33 Eat’n joints and the (Where to Eat) in Mishygun go to guy from all my Buckeye friends, I’ve heard a terrible rumor and hope you can tell me “It Ain’t True.” One of my friends just called me saying that he was at (The Turkey Roost) in Kawkawlin and was told they were closing up. Holy smokes, it’s one of our favorite places to stop on the way to Hillman & Deer Camp in November. We eat healthy on the way up, and on the way home we hit the Paddle Inn (Mio) for breakfast and Tony’s I-75 for lunch just incase we didn’t get enough Plath’s bacon at camp. Speaking of Plath’s…What makes their bacon so good is they get their pork-bellies from Daiseyfield in Sandusky, Ohio. Oh…They run them through that thick Mishygun smoke that we usually see in Ann Arbor and it does add something. You can tell John Plath I said so, great folks even though they live in that God forsaken state to the North.
Once again Mike, thanks so much for taking all the time you do collecting photos, gathering historic information then sending all of us a little bit of (Pure Michigan) every day. Believe it or not…I look forward to it every morning, after all…… it’s my second favorite state.
