The sign going into Omer says “Michigan’s Smallest City,” but according to Wikipedia Omer has 313 residents and it’s actually the second smallest city in the state as of the 2010 census. The smallest city is now Lake Angelus, with a population of 290, but Omer could always kick a few people out of town a reclaim the title.

The thing that really stands out about the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse in the Keweenaw Peninsula is its rocky shore line. most of the other lighthouses I have been to in Michigan are along a sandy shoreline. I was visiting it with my family and the volunteers talking to visitors are wonderful people. they told my kids stories of the lighthouse being haunted and they got to tour the lighthouse and loved it. they told a story about a Coast Guard lighthouse keeper in the 1970s reporting many strange happenings at Eagle Harbor, including the sight of a faceless man in a plaid flannel shirt, the sounds of moving furniture and heavy footsteps on the second floor and lights turning on and off. When I climbing around the rocks to take photos I also found a survey marker on one of the rocks that I thought was interesting.

Downtown Wolverine. I love old buildings with old faded “ghost murals”. I always wonder what they used to say. how come it’s rare to see a new advertising mural on a building these days. not everything needs to be hi-tech digital signage. sometimes old fashioned hand painted stuff is more noticeable and more appealing.
I saw this old car near a garage in Hale I think it’s a 55 Ford Fairlane. This isn’t some exotic sports car or rare classic it’s just a 4 door working class car, but someone saw value in it to keep it around and not melt it down for scrap. I bet in its day it made several trips to the store to by food for the family and then once a year the family loaded it up and went of to take a family vacation, probably to Mackinaw Island, I bet it even rode the ferry over to the U.P.
I drove thru downtown Flushing, and down one of the side streets I saw this cute older home. I love the older homes in Michigan they have so much more character even if it’s just an average working class house and not a Victorian mansion. I wonder if someday on the west coast, people will reminisce out about the beige stucco homes.
Adler Falls near Big Bay Michigan is one of my favorite falls to visit, you have to drive down a two-track of the main road, then from there you have hike down a steep ravine to get to it. it is nice a secluded so there are few people there when I visit. you can just sit there and soak up nature and listen to the falls.
