The Purple Gang’s Ghost

The Magnificent Church in Ypsilanti

While traveling around the state I see several beautiful old churches and this one in Ypsilanti stood out to me. The twin steeples stand proudly over the city on the First Presbyterian Church. The Bishop’s House

The Pilot House

At the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse is a strange looking building with the name Calcite proudly displayed on the roof. It was the pilot house from the 436 foot long S.S. Calcite. At the time of its construction in 1912, it was the longest self-unloader on the Great Lakes. Its home port was Rogers City

After The Fire

On September 5th, 1881 a massive devastating fire swept through Michigan’s Thumb Region. It burned over a million acres and killed 282 people.  The fire burned for several days and destroyed most of Sanilac, Lapeer, Tuscola, and Huron counties. The important thing to remember is not only the fire but the response to the fire.
