Driving thru the little community of Elm Hall, west of Alma, out of the corner of my eye I noticed this old church, It’s strange that such a large church sits back in the corner of the town away from the main drag. I would have thought it would be on the main intersection and the town built around it. The thing that I really noticed was the sign, “Church Of God, meets here”. What really sent me into deep thought was the “meets here” most churches are named after saint something or other and denotes the denomination on the sign, this was just the Church Of God and that fact that it says “meets here” means that Church Of God is not the name of the church but the group of people that meet there. It got me thinking what if we named everything like that. I live in Saginaw, what if the sign going into town said “City of Saginaw, lives here” or such and such school “learns here”, maybe even Ford Field, “the Lions play here” but that may be stretching it a bit.
